To an appreciable degree, one can say that Nigerians eat a lot of fruits especially when they are in season. One of the ways to know that a fruit is in season, asides the fact that it will be readily available, is the fact that many Nigerians can be found eating it. Now that’s a good practice. Researchers have not only found out that consumption of fresh fruit is responsible for a lower incidence of diabetes, they have also found out that this practice has the full potential to ameliorate occurrence of complications in people with diabetes.

According to research, people who reported elevated consumption of fresh fruits had a lower associated risk of diabetes which corresponds to an estimated 0.2 per cent reduction in the absolute risk of diabetes over a period of 5 years.

For people living with diabetes, higher consumption of fresh fruit was associated with a lower risk of mortality following an absolute decrease in risk of 1.9 per cent over a period of 5 years, and with lower risks of microvascular and macrovascular complications.
