Here’s Why You Need To Start Swimming More Often

Swimming isn’t only a fun activity but also a good form of exercise.

Swimming is an excellent way to work your entire body and cardiovascular system and you can get all of the benefits of an aerobic workout without any damaging impact on joints.

From weight management, flexibility, reduced inflammation and stress level, swimming has got a good number of benefits to offer to both the young and the old.

However, here are a few reasons you should consider to make you swim more.

1. Swimming helps you burn calories

A good number of us know that swimming is a good physical exercise that helps burn calories but we probably do not realise how effective it is because it has just as much effect as jumping or walking a treadmill and the good thing is, you get to enjoy it and sweat less as in the case of those other physical activities.

A gentle swim can burn as high as 150-200 calories in just half an hour, which is more than double that of walking.

2. It slows down aging

One of the greatest benefits of swimming is that it helps you lower your blood pressure which in turn lowers your risk of stroke, aneurysm, transient ischemic attack, dementia, disability, kidney disease, heart disease and other diseases associated with aging while increasing muscle mass, improving oxygen and blood flow to the brain, and increasing cardiovascular health.

3. Helps manage stress

A group of swimmers was studied immediately before and after swimming at a YMCA in New Taipei City, Taiwan. 44 people, out of the 101 people surveyed, reported being mildly depressed and feeling stress related to fast-paced life. After swimming, the number of people who still reported feeling stressed decreased to just eight.

So, when you swim regularly, it can lower stress levels, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve your sleep patterns.

Now that you know how important it is swim, you should totally swim more often.
