Did you know that your skin will turn over from bottom to top hundreds of times in your lifetime? The skin, being the largest organ of the human body, carries out a lot of not-so-obvious activities including growing new cells and shedding off old ones, in a bid to protect you from the harmful external environment.

Here are a few tips that you can use to keep your skin clear from inside out.
1. Drink lots of water
Water makes up a very large component of our body system – a whopping 70%. If you are not drinking enough water, you will get dehydrated and this may manifest on the face as stronger wrinkles, dull skin, and dry lips. Water will also help you flush some toxins out of your system which would reduce the likelihood of getting pimples on your face. Henceforth, do not wait until you are thirsty before taking water.

2. Rest well
Stress makes one’s skin sensitive, reactive, and inflamed. It may also weaken your ability to fight off irritants, allergens, or micro-organisms leading to sensitive or infected skin. So, the next time you are stressed, take time out to do whatever you can do to relax such as sleeping, getting a massage, and more. This will help you to feel better and improve the quality of your skin. A good night sleep is most important; it is called beauty sleep for a reason.

3. Eat green vegetables
Green vegetables are highly rich in antioxidants which protect the skin from free radicals. These free radicals often damage the skin and make it look saggy and wrinkly. I bet you do not want that. Therefore, you have to eat more green vegetables such as spinach, cucumber, and more for a healthy skin.

4. Reduce refined carbohydrates
The benefits of reducing your intake of refined sugar cannot be overemphasized. Examples of such products include pasta, white sugar, flour, and more. When you eat any of these, it causes your blood glucose levels to shoot up. Excess of this leads to breakdown of collagen fibres in the skin. This causes saggy and wrinkling skin.

5. Quit smoking
Smoking is harmful in so many regards. In this case, it is responsible for causing premature ageing of the skin. It makes the skin saggy because it damages the its collagen fibres. These collagen fibres ordinarily make the skin firm and strong. The more you smoke, the older you look.

6. Use sunscreen
Protect your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays with broad-spectrum sunscreens. Many sunscreens are actually less effective because most people do not apply the recommended amount. If you are not applying sunscreen evenly or thoroughly or re-applying after swimming or sweating, you are not using it well. Also, use sunscreens that contain zinc, titanium, avobenzone, or ecamsule. They are usually more effective.
7. Cleanse and moisturize
Use gentle fragrance-free soap and cleansers that will not dry out your skin’s natural oils. Concerning moisturizing, spending 5-10 minutes in the shower is enough to rehydrate your skin. Apply cream or ointments within a few minutes of leaving the shower while your skin is still moist. Use moisturizers or creams with retinols, vitamin C, vitamin E, alpha-hydrozy acids, and antioxidants.
