Blood donation is a voluntary action/procedure. It is when a person voluntarily agrees to have his/her blood drawn and used for transfusions, and/or made into bio pharmaceutical medication through the separation of whole blood components, a process called fractionation.

Some people are skeptical about blood donation, because they think they don’t have blood enough to share. But it is important to know that the average adult body has 10-12 pints of blood, and that healthy adults may give regularly because the body quickly replaces the blood donated.
Also, blood donation is good for the health of donors as well as those who need it.

Four reasons why you should donate blood are:

1. There is constant need for blood supply: Millions of people need blood transfusions each year. Thus, your contribution is important for a healthy and reliable blood supply.

2. It helps in saving lives: Blood donation helps in saving lives. One blood can help to save three lives. It can help in treating patients suffering from cancer, bleeding disorders, chronic anemia associated with cancer, sickle cell anemia amongst others.

3. For future use: Some people have their blood drawn for their own future use, but it must be ensured that such blood is kept in a good blood bank

4. For health purposes: There are health benefits associated with blood donation such as it reduces the risk of developing cancer, it aids better blood circulation.

It is important to know that human blood cannot be manufactured, people are the only source and that is why it is important to donate blood and help those who need it.
