Redbank collaborates with The Nigerian Red Cross to Host Blood Donation Awareness in Lagos

As it’s been stated that the gift of blood is the gift of life, there is no substitute for human blood. Every two seconds, many patients are always in danger due to blood shortage in the blood stream. As blood cannot be manufactured, but can only come from generous donors. One donation can help save the lives of three people.

Statistics and research has shown that Nigeria, the most populous black nation in Africa, needs an average number of 1.8 million pints of blood annually to enhance the medical state of all Nigerians, but it’s quite amazing to note that only 1.2 million pints of blood have been collected.

The insufficiency in the availability of certain amounts of pints of blood has lead to numerous deaths of many lives across the country today.

The difference in this statistical analysis, accounts for the large number of deaths experienced daily in our country, including the death of accident victims, pregnant women, sickle cell and other various diseases encountered by most Nigerians.

Bleeding effect, known as hemorrhage been a key health issue, have been noticed to be a leading cause to various maternal deaths in Nigeria, as a result of pregnant women not having access to pints of blood, leading to blood inadequacy, which is a serious issue in Nigeria, which is seriously affecting precious lives today.

It is from this encountering and daily experiences that awakened Redbank—a startup platform to assist patients and various hospital swiftly, in search of safe and potential blood in good time through SMS.

Redbank is now in collaboration with the Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Red cross Society and Lagos State Blood Transfusion in creating awareness and hosting a blood drive as part of a campaign to tick the Red Cross Day. Nigerians are therefore called upon, to come out in good numbers to volunteer and save lives, by donating blood to help preserve lives and death of innocent people.
