HOW TO KNOW WHEN YOUR PERIOD IS IRREGULAR

When your menstrual cycle varies more than a few days in length from month to month, it is considered to be irregular. An irregular period may also be related to a condition where the lining of the uterus becomes too thick. Although, it is absolutely normal to experience an irregular cycle once in a while, it becomes irregular when you don’t have a period for three to six months, then it simply means you have to see your doctor for help.

A lot of factors can affect your cycle. These include stress, changes in diet, having weight loss or gain, hormonal shifts and exercise routine. Irregular periods (stop of menstruation) could be as a result of a condition called premature ovarian failure which makes most women to stop having their period before the age of 40. It could be caused by surgery or radiation in the case of cancer patients.

In a woman’s fertile period, the eggs usually matures just within the ovaries in a cycle that lasts within 28 days. This differs from woman to woman. About twenty eggs get mature in the follicle of the ovaries on day five of the cycle. The remaining follicles then shrivel up back to the body. As day fourteen approaches, and as each follicle get mature earlier than the others and its matured egg is been released for fertilization. The eggs disintegrates and dies when it’s not been fertilized

CAUSES OF IRREGULAR PERIODS

  • Breastfeeding
  • Emotional problems
  • Hormonal issues
  • Eating disorder
  • Over exercising (surprised?)
  • Excessive weight loss or gain

Always remember that, if you’re sexually active and you don’t want to get pregnant at all, endeavor to use a birth control method, so that your irregular period does not give you an unexpected surprise.
