In a bid to make the landing of helicopters safe and easy and also to respond to medical emergency cases swiftly, the Lagos State Government has installed a modern heliport of international standard at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
Dr Wale Oke, the chief medical director, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, disclosed this at the weekend stating that the state government had already concluded plans of ways to install the helicopter evacuation system in the hospital.
The trial run which was also carried out on Friday was to identify the possible challenges that could occur and how to proffer solutions as the provision of the heliport was designed to move patients from different locations to the hospital when needed.
Oke also stated that the state government was using an extra budgetary funds to put up a modern heliport of international standards to cater for the needs of patients.
He also stated some of the problems which had been identified of which included the removing of some poles, cutting of some trees and adjustment of physical structures.
All these would be done in order to meet subsequent needs,” – he added.
