Did you know that when your partner says, “Not tonight dear, I have a headache…” it is not always false? Did you also know that there is such a thing as an orgasm headache or sex headache?

Well, there is actually something known as orgasm headaches… It is brought about by sexual activity, especially orgasm! It may come as a dull pain in your head, neck region as your sexual excitement rises.

There is also a more common type of orgasm headache that is sudden and severe. It occurs right before orgasm occurs. Some other times, it can be combined. The headaches last at least several minutes and sometimes hours, or it may even linger on for days. The frequency varies from clusters over a few months to once in an entire lifetime. The headaches may subside as the sexual excitement dies down.

Usually, just about any sexual activity that leads to orgasm can trigger orgasm headaches. Experts say that men are three times more likely to get orgasm headaches than women. Having a history of migraines also increases your risk of orgasm headaches.

Although it is not uncommon and they usually aren’t a cause for concern, it may be a sign of an underlying medical condition hence it should not be ignored. So, if this happens to you for the first time especially if it is sudden, it is advisable you consult your doctor to ensure they aren’t an underlying problem. Most sex headaches last at least several minutes. Others may linger for hours or even two to three days.

Some people have attributed the cause of orgasm headaches to the adrenaline rush that floods the body as the excitement rises and although the causes aren’t quite clear, there are treatments that work and if you ask me, that’s good news…
