How You Can Burn Belly Fat With Nigerian Foods

Belly fat is something a good number of us keep fighting to lose on a daily basis.

Funny thing is that in a bid to burn the excess belly fat, we’ve tried nearly all forms of therapies there is to try, like dieting, using one or two types of weight loss teas, pills, and concoctions.

Unfortunately, most of these things don’t work and we end up getting frustrated and persuading ourselves that we’ve got the fat gene in us, and it’s probably impossible to get rid of fat in the belly region.

Here’s the good news, it’s totally possible to burn that fat. In fact, you can do that using Nigerian foods. Exciting, right?

So, how can I achieve that? Very simple, these few tips will help you get rid of that unwanted belly fat in no time.

1. Get rid of junks and other processed foods

The truth about these junk foods is that they are high in calories, causing an overload of calories in your body. When these calories are not used up in the course of your daily activities, they end up being stored as fat in your body (particularly in your belly region). Hence, the need to replace every junk food in your house and fridge with healthy nutrient-packed foods.

2. Eat as often as possible, do not starve

Ensuring you eat something every 3-4 hours is vital in burning belly fat because starving yourself for so long puts your body in starvation mode which causes you to eventually overeat when you finally decide to take something.

The truth is, when you starve yourself, you might actually lose weight, but it’s only going to be temporary because the moment you get back to eating, your body, which has been in starvation mode for a while quickly discovers a supply of food and starts processing sugar which stores up as fat in your fat storage cell (adipose tissue) again because it thinks that this is a one time opportunity to store everything it can before you go into starvation mode again.

3. Balance your meal properly and eat less carbohydrate

Most Nigerian meals are fully loaded with carbohydrate. For instance, a typical Nigerian eats something like rice and plantain for breakfast, eba and egusi for lunch and bread and butter for dinner, which are all one class of food (carbohydrate). Not forgetting this doesn’t cover his/her snacks during the day.

How about taking something like 2 slices of bread and 1 boiled/fried egg in the morning, 1 cup of beans and 5 slices of plantain (optional) and 1 wrap of moi moi for dinner OR 1 cup oat for breakfast, rice and beans for lunch (make sure the rice is smaller than the beans), 1 cup chicken veggie stir-fry for dinner while snacking on healthy and high protein snacks like 1 cup of yogurt, 1 cup popcorn, carrots, watermelon and other low calorie fruits.

The body actually stores excess carbohydrate as fat, which means that continuous excess carbohydrate intake will definitely result in weight gain and extra belly fat.

So, for you to successfully lose that belly fat, it is extremely important to watch carbohydrate intake as consuming below the daily carbohydrate requirement means that your body will be forced to access stored energy (fat) which translates to weight loss and belly fat burn.

4. Ditch the drinks; Drink water instead

We sometimes consume more calories from what we drink than what we eat because we fail to realize that drinks contain calories as well and the more the excess calories in our bodies, the excess fat.

Rather than buying a bottle of your favourite drink and snack when stuck in traffic, how about a bottle of low-fat yogurt or a bottle of water better still?

Water contains zero calories and it will help you stay full, helping you curb overeating that way.
