How To Eat Right For Your Body Type

Getting that perfect body type and knowing how well to dress that body has always been the hype. How about knowing what substance is best for that body type?

Everyone’s body stores fat differently which is responsible for the different shapes (apple, pear, hourglass). So, knowing what diet you should and should not take will go a long way in determining the best way to take care of your body since we all respond differently to different dieting techniques.

According to a study by The Economist, people who carry weight in their stomachs do better on low-carb diets while people who carry weight in their hips and thighs do better on a low-fat diet.

1. Apple body type

body type

This body is characterized by a thick torso, broad shoulders, and smaller hips, legs, and arms. If you gain weight as an apple type tends to carry all or most of its weight around the belly area and can deposit some of the fat on some vital organs which leaves them at risk of certain conditions like heart diseases, diabetes, and the likes.

The key to losing weight for the apple body type is to get your blood sugar level under control.

What to eat:

According to the author of Everyday Diabetes Meals and registered dietitian, Laura Cipullo, RD, CDE, RYT, focus on eating healthy fat (such as eggs, avocado, nuts, seeds, nut butter, coconut oil, olive oil etc).

“Fat has a minimal effect on insulin levels, so you’ll get fewer blood sugar spikes,” she says. This translates into fewer cravings and more energy, she adds.

Also eat clean proteins (chicken, lean beef, pork, fish) and leafy vegetables.

What to avoid:

It’s advisable to cut back on refined sugars and processed carbs. Also, cut back on coffee or caffeinated beverages as they can throw off cortisol and insulin.

2. Pear body type

body type

This body type is described by narrow shoulders, small waist, and larger through the hips and thighs and they tend to gain weight through the hips and thighs.

The good thing about this so-called gluteofemoral fat on hips and thighs is one of the healthiest places to store excess fat and has even been linked with longer life.

What to eat:

Building lean muscles while maintaining a healthy body is the best way to keep your body in good shape if you are pear body-shaped. So, try eating plenty of lean proteins, leafy greens, and healthy fats.

What to avoid:

Avoid high-fat dairy like cheese, non-organic produce, and excess sugar.

3. Hourglass body type

body type

This body type carries their weight evenly between top and bottom, with a defined waist. This body type has a soft, round look and they store fat equally all over their body.

Because of the even distribution of fat in the body, it might be a little difficult to notice a slight gain in weight and excess weight can be harmful to your health.

What to eat:

Go for high-quality carbs and whole grain cereals and eat a lot of vegetables because they allow you to eat a lot of food without taking in a lot of calories, helping you feel full and satisfied.

What to avoid:

Thanks to the high levels of female hormones like estrogen and progesterone in your body, your fat is well distributed in your body, giving you a nice figure. However, estrogen is also a fat-storing hormone that can lead to weight gain.

So, stay away from pastries, candy, ice cream, and other high-sugar, high-fat treats. Reserve for only special occasions.

Anyway, whether you are apple, pear or hourglass, the most important thing is to eat healthily and eat clean.
