On Saturday, the health educator, Kogi State Ministry of Health, Mrs Blessing Ameh while in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) made it known that the state was free of polio for upward six years without new cases.
Mrs Ameh said that more efforts were still needed to protect children from re-infection
The first round of the exercise, according to her, would be held on Febuary 27 and last through March 1. She also said that children within the ages of 0-5 would still be immunised wih oral polio and other killer disease vaccines as they are still prone to all these.
In another statement she made, she said that the vaccinators would go from house to house, school to school, to market places, mosques and churches as the National Immunization day for the year was around.
Polio disease is very bad as it has no cure but can only be prevented. It also cripples children for life; causes of polio are polio virus through contaminated food or water by feaces of an infected person. – she said.
Ameh, therefore, urged parents to make their wards available for the exercise.
