Recently a smile has been put on the faces of people living with sickle cell disease (SCD) in order to help them manage crisis as a donation was recently made to the Association of People Living With Sickle Cell Disorder (PLWSCD) in Anambra.
Mr Arthur Eze, an oil magnate donated the sum of N5 million to the association for the construction of its clinic at Ukpo, Anambra.
Ms Aisha Edwards, the National Co-ordinator, while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria made it known that many members had died due to lack of financial support and frustration while getting treated in hospitals, and that this donation would assist in the construction of the clinic and treatment at affordable prices.
According to her, the inauguration of the clinic shall take place on the 18th of June in Ukpo by the Anglican Archbishop Aguata Diocese, Most Rev. Christian Efobi.
The clinic shall be of a world class standard and shall cater for the medical, psychological, and physical care of all sicklers in the state, and shall be named after Eze, the sole donor of the project.” – she said
She advised intending couples to check their genotypes before marriage and called on the clergy and traditional rulers to join in the campaign against the procreation of sickle-cell children.
