Vitamins are highly needed for the maximum performance of our body. These vitamins provide amazing health benefits on their own, but one which I would be sharing its benefits in this article is Vitamin A. Most individuals don’t seem to fully understand the benefits associated with this vitamin. For this reason, I would be pouting the much I have been able to learn based on my research about this vitamin.
Vitamin A is one of those vitamins which plays a critical role in our body. It is a fat soluble vitamin which is also a powerful antioxidant. It is also known for promoting healthy vision, neurological functions, healthy skin, and so much more. Like all antioxidants, this vitamin is involved in reducing inflammations through fighting free radical damage.
Sources of vitamin A can be found in almost every real food we consume. Liver is the richest source when it comes to obtaining vitamin A from these real foods. However, it does have an acquired taste and is not ideal to eat regularly.
Other excellent sources include:
- Whole milk, egg yolk and butter.
- There are also a whole host of vegetables which contain high levels of vitamin A. These include sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, and other leafy greens.
Different vegetables contain different carotenoids so it is important to eat a variety in order to obtain all the different forms!
It is recommended that vitamin A is mostly obtained by consuming a well-balanced diet high in fruits, vegetables, and whole foods rather from supplements.
There are a few key deficiency symptoms associated with this vitamin, most of which are the opposite of the benefits which it has to offer.
- Skin Damage: One deficiency of this vitamin is dry, flaky or scaly skin. This is due to keratinisation, making epithelial cells lose moisture.
- Bad Eye Health: Vitamin A deficiency may also lead to the thickening of the cornea which in the long run could lead to blindness. Usually, this will affect both eyes.
- Infections in the Respiratory System: Respiratory infections can occur when you are deficient in vitamin A, due to lack of immune function.
On this note, I would recommend that you incorporate vitamin A into your daily meals in order to avoid its deficiency and enjoy from its amazing benefits.
Note that, vitamin A can be a very powerful supplement if used correctly. You should ensure that you are sticking to the correct dosage, as if you do, you should not suffer any adverse side effects or put yourself at any risk.
